VISION INFO

Blurry vision? Find it harder to read up close? Red eyes? Tired eyes? Sandy, gritty or watery eyes? Kids finding school hard? Headaches? Spots and floating things in your vision? Family with old age vision problems? Sometimes closing one eye? Light sensitivity?

We have some answers below.

Blurry vision

If your vision is blurry either far away or close up, you might need glasses to help your eyes focus again. If you need to wear your glasses a lot, then contact lenses are also an option. We find a lot of people are surprised at how easy contact lenses are to wear.

Getting harder to read up close

If you are finding you need to hold your phone or book a bit further away to see, you should consider a visit with us. This normally gets harder over 40, and sometimes younger too. Glasses that help with focussing for near are often “reading “ glasses or “study” glasses for students.

Screen time can lead to vision problems

Digital Screens

Almost all of us have some "screen" time every day - at home and at work. A screen on your desk, a smartphone in your pocket, a tablet on your coffee table and BYOD in a students school bag. These digital devices enhance our lives, but our eyes and vision were not designed for this type of use - we originated outdoors, looking far away for predators!

Digital eye strain is not permanent but is distracting and less productive. Commonly it is not the screen itself that is causing the problem, rather the very intensive work for hours at a time. Often small prescriptions of astigmatism, hyperopia and presbyopia don't cause problems with less demanding activities, but cause digital eye strain that is eased by wearing a correction in glasses. Digital eye care is important for all the family, especially kids. We also recommend lenses that protect your eyes from the blue light emitted from digital screens.

Tired eyes

Your eyes may be tired as they are not focussing comfortably, either for reading, computer work or for looking far away. Tired eyes can also be dry eyes. Our optometrist will examine your eyes to determine the cause of your tired eyes, and recommend a solution.

Kids finding school hard

With 80% of learning at school visually related, our kids need good vision to succeed. Checking that your child has normal comfortable vision for both near vision (reading) and far vision (the whiteboard) is all part of why we love working with kids.

Parents or siblings with old age vision problems

If you have a close family member who has been treated for glaucoma or other vision loss, it is important that you keep ahead of any problems with regular comprehensive eye examinations.

Headaches

These may be related to your vision, and if you are having them frequently, a comprehensive vision and eye health check is suggested. If your headaches tend to occur when reading or doing computer work then this may be a sign that they are vision related.

Closing one eye sometimes

This is tiring, and is often because working both eyes together is uncomfortable, sometimes you might even have problems with double vision. Double vision isn’t normal, and you should have your eyes checked.

Light sensitive

There are many reasons why a person is light sensitive. Knowing why you are light sensitive, and managing this is part of normal eye care.
